How might we let users preview menu items, purchase café gift cards, and place online orders within an attractive UI and technically sound, responsive website?
A custom site design that features large images of process, product, and environment. Design and develop a product that appeals to target users satisfying their desire to know how food and drink items are prepared, what ingredients are used, and where the café is located.
An itinerary builder with ease of use and organization at its core
Practicing the UX principles Hick’s Law and Fitts’s Law to maximize usability and effectiveness, I sketched interaction designs for how hero CTAs would behave. After two prototypes where I user tested placement and functionality of “Order Now” and “View Menu” buttons, I realized the distance between images and buttons was too great. I decreased the space between visuals and button targets and wrapped 3 visuals and CTAs in one rotating carousel within the hero, and this improved interaction results. I also limited the number of choices in navigation menus to simplify options and get users the information they needed quickly.

I completed the end to end design and development for this product as it exists now. Since it is currently a WIP, I will soon be building out the functionality and refining the layout for the online ordering process. Stay tuned. This project has allowed me to understand the vast improvements that can be made in the ‘Design’ phase of projects. Switching disciplines to ‘Develop’ the site and hand code all functionality demands a well-tested, validated user experience. It benefits everyone when the design process (discover, define, ideate, UI, validate) is deployed and followed.
